Darius Valcov has resigned on Monday from the position of economic adviser to Prime Minister Viorica Dancila, following a discussion with the Premier, Government sources inform.
The Prime Minister has accepted the resignation, ziare.com reports.
Last Tuesday, after the PSD Executive Committee sitting, PM Dancila was asked if she would work with Anca Alexandrescu and Darius Valcov, people close to former PSD leader Liviu Dragnea, who has been imprisoned one day before.
“With Anca Alexandrescu is out of the question. She is honorary adviser with the Government, tomorrow I will release her from office. I will soon make a decision regarding Darius Valcov. Don’t expect an answer right now,” Viorica Dancila said.
The decision on Monday comes as the Premier has appointed a new honorary adviser on economic issues, reform and taxation – Remus Borza.
The decision published by ‘Official Gazette’ on Monday reads that “Mr. Remus Adrian Borza is granted the position of honorary adviser to the Prime Minister, on economic issues, reform and taxation. Mr. Ramus Adrian Borza’s activity is not remunerated.”
Anca Nicoleta Alexandrescu was released from the office of honorary adviser to the Prime Minister last Thursday.
Darius Valcov was elected Mayor of Slatina twice (in 2004 and 2008) on behalf of the Democratic-Liberal Party. In 2012, he resigned from the party and joined the Social-Democratic Party, being elected Senator.
Between August and December 2014 he was the Budget Minister in the third Ponta Cabinet, while from December 2014 to March 2015, he was the Minister of Finance in the fourth Ponta Cabinet.
Vâlcov resigned on March 15, 2015 following the corruption investigation of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA). He was convicted to an 8 year prison sentence in 2018, appeal is currently pending.
