PMP deputy Doru Coliu has announced on Tuesday he would press charges to the Military Prosecutor’s Office, claiming he has been assaulted by the gendarmes in Victoriei Square while attending the Diaspora rally. He has also asked for the resignation of the Gendarmerie’s spokesperson.
“I will fight until the end to find out the truth. We, the Romanians who attended the protest, want to know what type of gas has been used, what ammunition, in what circumstances, why gendarmes had weapons on them, who gave the order,” Coliu told a press conference.
He argued that, after 18 years of living in Spain and as Diaspora deputy, he has considered normal to attend the Diaspora rally in Victoriei Square on August 10.
He condemned “the repression against the Romanians from Diaspora. “It is a revenge of the state-party PSD against the Diaspora,” he concluded.
The Riot Police has used tear gas jets against the crowd during the Diaspora rally last Friday, with experts claiming that in high dose, tear gas can have extremely negative effects over the human body, especially on children, old people and pregnant women, the more that the high temperatures outside have increased the gas effects.
Tear gas mainly consists of two basic chemicals based on chloride and arsenic, which are extremely toxic for the human body.
High concentration of tear gas can lead to strong cough, vomiting and skin burns. In some case, it can produce permanent burn scars of the face, and can even lead to death of those suffering of psychiatric disorder. Exposure to tear gas can also cause pneumonia or cancer.
