DeSilva real estate developer buys ex-social democrat Geoana’ s residence

DeSilva real estate developer bought the protocol villa where the former Social Democrat and foreign minister Mircea Geoana lived with his family, for no less than EUR 906,600. The starting price put up for auction was EUR 588,000.

Mircea Geoana himself wanted to buy his former residence, a lawyer representing his family being present at the auction on Wednesday.

The final buyer of the villa owned by the national agency for administrating state domains and protocol (RA-APPS) informed after the auction that the company intends to demolish the villa and build a new residential building for flats or offices.

“We only buy demolishable dwellings and we are building residential locations for offices or flats. I know that this villa is demolishable, too,” DaSilva Group manager, Virgil Calina told Mediafax.

DeSilva real estate developer was founded in 1992 and owns, among others, Ramada North Hotel in Bucharest. It also developed several real estate projects, such as Park Residences ensembles located in Bucharest’s northern area and in Predeal, as well as warehouses and residential offices in Berceni district.

The 271 square meters villa that Mircea Geoana rented from RA-APPS has one store and an attic floor and a 550 square meters surrounding site. The building is located downtown Bucharest, near Aviatorilor Boulevard and Calea Dorobantilor.

Geoana’s former residence was put up for auction about one month ago after the Social Democrat Party ousted Geoana from the party, along with Marian Vanghelie and Dan Sova, and Geoana had to give up his position as the Prime Minister’s High Representative, which actually allowed him to have a protocol residence.

No later than Tuesday, Mircea Geoana announced he would launch an initiative group enabling “the new PSD” setting up in about two weeks. According to the former Social Democrat leader, his party will be an alternative to what Victor Ponta, the incumbent PSD president, is representing.
