EC reacts to PM Dancila’s statements: EU’s position has remained unchanged

The European Union’s position in regard to the relocation of embassies in Israel has not changed, a European Commission spokesperson said on Monday, referring to the statements made by Prime Minister Viorica Dancila in the US, regarding the relocation of the Romanian Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The official said she has seen the Premier’s statements, but also the ones of the President.

“I am not I have any particular comment to offer. I can only say that the EU position remains unchanged. Yes, we have seen the report of what the Prime Minister said, we have also seen the reaction of the President and hence I would leave it like that,” said Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson of the European Commission.

“We have regular contacts with the member states on the issues of relevance, and let me remind you the second part of what I have said, We have seen the Prime Minister’s remarks and the President remarks. The position of the European Union has not changed,” the spokesperson added.

After announcing on Sunday, during a visit paid to the US that, after completing the analysis and in full consensus, Romania will relocate the Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, PM Viorica Dancila has got back to the issue during a TV talk-show, saying the announcement on the Romanian Embassy’s relocation to Jerusalem was just a personal opinion.
