EC Vice-President Stephane Sejourne meets Marcel Ciolacu and Ilie Bolojan

Stéphane Séjourné, Executive Vice-President of the EC, responsible for industrial strategy, will meet today in Bucharest with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu and the President of the Senate, Ilie Bolojan, during an official visit to Romania between January 8-9, 2025. On the agenda of the discussions are changes in the automotive industry and the role played by batteries in the decarbonization of supply chains in Europe.

The visit marks the fourth leg of the Executive Vice-President’s tour of Europe’s most strategic industrial sectors and supply chains – this time with a specific focus on batteries,” the EC announced on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, 8 January, the high-ranking official will meet at 18:30 with Bogdan-Gruia Ivan, Minister of Economy, Digitalisation, Entrepreneurship and Tourism. Later, at 19:00, he will meet with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, and at 20:00, he will meet with Ilie Bolojan, President of the Senate.

On Thursday, 9 January, Séjourné will visit the Prime Batteries Technology factory, a Romanian company that supplies state-of-the-art lithium-ion batteries and customised energy storage systems to a multitude of sectors and businesses across Europe.

“This visit will be an opportunity to showcase the indispensable role played by batteries in the decarbonisation of Europe’s supply chains. The Executive Vice-President will also discuss the challenges facing the battery sector and Europe’s response to them,” the European Commission said in a statement.

Stéphane Séjourné will conclude his visit with a visit to the National Institute for Aerospace Research and Development (INCAS), the leading research centre in the field of aerospace sciences in Romania.
