EPP group in the European Parliament asks for a new resolution on the rule of law in Romania

The European People’s Party (EPP) group in the European Parliament is asking a new debate on the rule of law situation in Romania, while also urging a new resolution on the Dancila Government’s side-slips, Romanian MEP Cristian Preda announced on Monday.
Following the latest development, the EPP Group is asking for the situation of the rule of law in Romania to be re-discussed and that a new resolution on the Dancila cabinet’s side-slips should be adopted,” Preda said. He added that the debate and the vote are scheduled in the last session of the incumbent legislative term, in Strasbourg during April 15-18.

The European Parliament has voted a resolution on the rule of law in Romania by 473 votes to 151 and 40 abstentions on November 13, 2018.

The European forum is thus urging the Parliament and Government of Romania to fully enforce all the European Commission’s recommendations, as well as the ones from GRECO and the Venice Commission and to refrain from any reform that would jeopardize the rule of law, including the independence of the judiciary.
