European ALDE leader Guy Verhofstadt sends message of support for USR-PLUS Alliance

Guy Verhofstadt, president of ALDE group in the European Parliament, has sent a message of support for the USR-PLUS Alliance on Twitter Friday, after the problems encountered in the registration for the European elections.

“Romanian authorities must not constrain democracy by creating absurd obstacles for the registration of an opposition alliance. Should this obstruction of & continue, Romania will further slide away from Europe’s democratic core,” reads Verhofstadt tweet.

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) has decided to reject the Alliance 2020 USR-PLUS’s bid to run together for the EP elections in May this year, a PLUS press release informs. PLUS chairman, Dacian Ciolos replied that „it is an insult to the voters and a totally undemocratic action”. More here.

Guy Verhofstadt is not allowed to interfere in the Romanian internal affairs. Let him limit himself to the strange political affairs in Belgium. And he should not forget that ALDE Romania is a member of the European ALDE. Perhaps the expiry date of his political role has passed?
