Ex-presidential spokesperson in Chișinău: Moldovan President blackmailed to name a certain PM

Vlad Turcanu, former spokesperson of the Presidency of the R. Moldovan stated on Friday that Moldovan President Nicolae Timofti was blackmailed to name a certain person for the premier position. The ex-spokesperson also unveiled the President had been even veiledly threatened that bad things that could happen to his two sons, Jurnal de Chisinau reports.

“The President talked about the fact he had been imposed a certain nomination and I don’t know who suggested that not too good things would happen to his two sons. The two would have been monitored,” Turcanu told a TV show, adding he refers to Vladmir Plahotniuc, whose candidature has been rejected by President Timofti.

The former spokesperson stated that the President would have talked about this incident with the ambassadors accredited in Chisinau. “He gave information about this case as much as he considered it’s necessary. I don’t know too many things. He probably offered further details to the heads of the foreign missions,” Turcanu mentioned.

President Timofti has previously declared that he was subject to some pressures from the Democrat Party leaders to appoint a candidate endorsed by them.

Timofti rejected to name Vladimir Plahotniuc, a controversial local businessman for the prime minister position, arguing he doesn’t meet the integrity standards.

Former presidential spokesperson also revealed during the show at TV7 that President Timofti was convinced to accept the swearing-in ceremony of the new Pavel Filip Cabinet on Wednesday at the last moment, after it had been initially decided the ceremony should take place the next day, due to the violent street protests in Moldova’s capital.

The members of the new Moldovan Government swore into office on Wednesday night to Thursday.

Vlad Turcanu, a journalist by profession, resigned on Thursday, after the previous day he had announced the media the swearing-in ceremony would take place on Thursday.
