Poland’s President, Andrzej Duda, who arrived in Bucharest for an official visit on Monday night, came on the tragedy’s scene where he laid flowers and lit candles in the memory of the victims who died in the Colectiv Club fire.
The diplomatic representations of several countries including the United States of America, the Russian Federation, France, the UK and Spain, flew their flags half-mast to mourn the victims of the Colectiv club’s fire.
The ambassadors of the U.S., UK, France, Turkey, Palestine, Morocco to Romania visited these days the site of the tragedy where a tide of flowers and burning candles renders homage to the fire’s victims.
The Turkish Ambassador announced that, according to Turkish diplomatic rules, he will also request permission in his country to have the flag flown half-mast.
Several foreign nationals are among the victims of the fire that ripped on Friday the Bucharest Colectiv club. According to media information, there are two Spaniards, one German, one Italian and a Turkish citizen.
The Turkish citizen, a student who came to Romania under the Erasmus program, is at the Floreasca Hospital. The Italian is at the hospital of the Romanian Intelligence Service, in a very serious condition. The two Spaniards are at the same hospital, while the German citizen is being admitted at the University Hospital.
President Klaus Iohannis said he is deeply impressed with the messages of solidarity received from heads of state and government, foreign ambassadors in Bucharest, while thanking all of them.
”I am impressed by the messages of solidarity received from the heads of state, government, from the ambassadors in Bucharest and from Romania’s friends outside country borders. These are warm words of support and encouragement that are actually conveyed to all the Romanians, and which I read with great emotion. Thank you, everyone!,” Iohannis wrote on Monday on his Facebook account.
The death toll of the fire that broke out in the club during a rock concert hit 31, as another patient at the Bucharest Burn Surgery Emergency Hospital died just short ago. Some of the injured are still in critical condition, with doctors remaining cautious about their survival chances.
