Former political adviser in the US Embassy in Bucharest appointed presidential aide

Laurentiu-Mihai Stefan, former political adviser within the US Embassy in Bucharest was appointed presidential aide by President Klaus Iohannis, starting January 26.

Stefan is the founder of the Romanian Political Sciences Society and professor contributor at the Political Sciences faculty within the University in Bucharest.

He also worked as a journalist and studied political sciences at the Cambridge University. He wrote several books, essays and articles about Romanian politics, about the elites’ head hunting both at national and local level.

Stefan’s name circulated as possible presidential adviser since December.

President Iohannis has appointed nine advisers so far. Dan Mihalache, Dan Muraru, Cosmin-Stefan Marinescu, Tatiana Niculescu Bran and Adrian-George Scutaru were first appointed on December 22. Sergiu Nistor was name on January 5, while Leonard Orban, Elena-Simina Tanasescu and Mihaela Ciochina were appointed six days ago.
