French President Emmanuel Macron to pay visit to Romania on August 24, sources say

French President Emmanuel Macron will pay a visit to Romania on August 24, French diplomatic sources say.

Macron will meet President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.

The purpose of the visit is to discuss issues related to security and defence, as well as political topics related to the European Union. In addition, economic development is a subject that will surely be tackled, as France is one of the largest foreign investors in Romania.

Most likely, President Macron’s visit will also address issues related to Romania’s army endowment programme, reports.

This would be President Macron’s first visit to Romania.

President Klaus Iohannis had a meeting with his French counterpart in the margins of the European Council in Brussels held in June.

“We have had a first bilateral meeting with President Macron. We have approached, in a very short time, many very important topics for us, both on bilateral basis and in European formats. We talked about the collaboration we are preparing for the cultural season. We discussed about the much-debated directive on the detachment of workers,” President Iohannis said at that time.

Emmanuel Macron was elected President of France in May this year.
