George Simion, elected vice-president of the European Conservatives and Reformists

The AUR party announced on Tuesday that its president, George Simion, was voted, at a congress held in Brussels, to serve as vice-president of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party (ECR), the third largest group in the European Parliament. Also on Tuesday, the leadership of the ECR – previously held by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni – was taken over by former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
George Simion obtained the position with unanimous votes.
“George Simion has won the position coveted by Swedish, Czech and Spanish politicians. The new elected party leadership, in addition to President Mateusz Moravietki, includes only two vice-presidents: Carlo Fidanza (Italy) and Marion Marechal (France), the granddaughter of the famous Jean-Marie Le Pen,” reads an AUR press release.
Simion also announced on Facebook that he will be taking on a new position as of Tuesday: “This will facilitate our work for a free Romania and a Europe of sovereign nations. I will represent you with honor.”
George Simion’s party has five MEPs. AUR has the third largest delegation in the political group led until now by Giorgia Meloni, after Brothers of Italy (24 seats) and the Law and Justice Party (20).
