George Simion has filed his candidacy for the presidential elections

AUR President George Simion, who supported Calin Georgescu, filed his candidacy with the Central Electoral Bureau for the presidential elections in May on Friday.

“For 35 years they have been promising us freedom and prosperity and giving us austerity and confiscated rights. Unfortunately, my dears, today we have a divided country, a disunited country. We do not want conflicts, but peace. That is precisely why the elections in May are so important, because we want the stamp to reach a candidate chosen by the people and not by the system. No one steals our vote anymore, no one steals our country anymore. Enough. It was the solution we found to prevent lawlessness,” declared the AUR leader, after filing his candidacy for the presidential elections.

“I submitted 604,000 signatures to the BEC. I have been collecting them since Sunday. A very large number of signatures will come for Anamaria Gavrilă, well above the 200,000 minimum required,” he adds.

POT chairwoman Anamaria Gavrilă is to submit her candidacy to the Central Electoral Bureau on Saturday at around 3 p.m., George Simion announced on Wednesday.

After CCR rejected the candidacy of sovereignist candidate Calin Georgescu, AUR and POT leaders, who would have endorsed him, announced they would run for Presidency instead.

Videos have appeared on social media in which it appears that the collection of signatures for the presidential elections is not being done as required by law in the case of Anamaria Gavrilă, the POT president. Instead of collecting new signatures to enter the race, from the video uploaded on TikTok it seems that they are being transcribed from older lists. The POT president refused to respond to the accusations.

According to the BEC, along with the candidacy proposal, the electoral symbol that the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians Party wishes to use in the presidential elections was also submitted for analysis.

“In accordance with the provisions of art. 29 para. (2) and art. 30 para. (6) of Law no. 370/2004, republished, with subsequent amendments and completions, the Central Electoral Bureau is to analyze and rule on the fulfillment of the legality conditions for the registration of the candidacy and the electoral symbol”, the Central Electoral Bureau sent in a press release.

The BEC also specifies that “the registration or rejection of the registration of the candidacy and the electoral symbol will be made known to the public in accordance with the legal provisions”.
