George Simion, leader of a unionist movement, expelled from R. of Moldova

Moldovan authorities have detained and expelled George Simion, leader of the Unionist Action Platform 2012, a movement that advocates the unification of the Republic of Moldova with Romania. He was arrested on Wednesday by agents of the Moldovan Security and Information Service (SIS), the Romanian citizen being banned from entering the Moldovan territory for five years, writes ‘Jurnal de Chisinau’, cited by ziare.com.

George Simion has confirmed on his Facebook page that he has been detained by SIS, explaining that the reason would be that unionist march Action Platform 2012 will organize in Chisinau on Saturday. “They do not agree with the protest on May 16,” said Simon.

Unionist Action Platform 2012 is a coalition of non-governmental associations and civic groups which support the unification of Moldova with Romania.

Foreign Ministry: The Embassy in Chisinau found out from public sources

The Romanian embassy in Chisinau has found out in the afternoon of Wednesday, from public sources, about George Simion being detained by the representatives of the Bureau of Migration and Asylum of the Republic of Moldova and has asked for clarifications, also contacting Simon, now on his way to Romania.

“The embassy contacted the Romanian citizen to provide all the assistance that might be needed. Mr. George Simion diplomatic mission informed about his situation, without making specific requests. Currently, the Romanian citizen is the way to Romania,” reads the statement.
