Gov’t emergency ordinance: CCR, ICCJ, CSM and Romanian Academy heads will receive official residences

The Government approved on Wednesday an emergency ordinance stipulating that the heads of the Constitutional Court (CCR), the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ – Supreme Court), the Court of Auditors, the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) and the Romanian Academy will receive official residences, which will be made available free of charge by RA-APPS (the Autonomous Administration of the State Protocol Patrimony).

“It was decided that there would be legislative similarity in respect of certain persons in important positions in the Romanian State, of high public dignity, to benefit from the same facilities. I am referring here, from memory, to the president of the Romanian Academy, the chairman of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the President of the Court of Accounts, the chairman of the Constitutional Court. This decision was made considering that they have high public dignities and enjoy, like other persons having similar positions, the same legal provisions,” Government Speaker, Nelu Barbu, said.

“Costs of energy, gas, water, sewerage, amortisation and wear of fixed assets and inventory objects, taxes on buildings and land related to the use of the official residence will be covered by the RA-APPS funds,” the draft emergency ordinance reads.

Until the adoption of this emergency ordinance, RA-APPS has provided official residences only to the President of Romania, the Senate Speaker, the Chamber of Deputies Speaker, the Prime Minister and the persons who served as heads of the Romanian State.
