Hans Klemm, during the hearings in the US Senate: Romania is not vulnerable to Russian propaganda

Hans Klemm, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Romania, said on Wednesday, at the hearings of the Foreign Policy Committee of the US Senate, that Romania is not vulnerable to Moscow’s propaganda, while being ‘a friend’ and ‘partner’ for Washington, according to the interview posted on the website of the US Senate.
Asked by senators about Romania’s vulnerability to Russian propaganda, Hans Klemm said the Russian propaganda has little effect in Romania due to a difficult historical relationship and that, according to polls, Romania’s population currently has a negative perception on Russia. In addition, public opinion in Romania, he said, is dominated by the pro-American and pro-Western options, according foreign.senate.gov.
The US official also pointed out that, unlike its neighbours, Romania is not affected by Russian pressures on energy issues. Thus, Romania is not dependent neither on Russian natural gas or oil. Romania is regarded by Klemm as ‘a friend’ and ‘a strategic partner’ of the United States, committed to strengthen bilateral relations and to support the anti-corruption efforts.
Hans Klemm said that Romania is a firm partner, it sent troops to Afghanistan, it hosts a base for missile defence system, and in Romania there are hundreds of members of the Navy and the US Army, as well as a regional centre for logistics equipment.
Klemm has promised that, if he is confirmed as ambassador in Bucharest, will work with determination to strengthen Romania’s role in NATO and in the bilateral partnership.
Hans G. Klemm was nominated to the post of US ambassador to Romania on March 25. He was heard by the Foreign Policy Committee of the US Senate along with four other diplomats – ambassadors of the United States nominated in Poland, Cyprus, Estonia and Norway, according to the website of the US Senate.
