More than half of Romanians would prefer an independent for the Presidency to the detriment of the candidate of a political party, and a similar percentage would opt for a right-wing president, while just over 20% would prefer a left-wing one, according to a survey carried out by INSCOP commissioned by News.ro.
More than 50% prefer a man as president, the option of a woman in Cotroceni being chosen by 31% of those surveyed. Regarding the age of the future president, the percentages are close.
The same poll also reveals that, among the PSD voters, almost a third consider Marcel Ciolacu the most suitable candidate for the Presidency of the party, followed by Mircea Geoană and Victor Ponta. Among PNL voters, 15.1% indicate Nicolae Ciucă as the most suitable candidate from the formation, followed by Emil Boc and Mircea Geoană, who are tied.
More than half of AUR voters consider George Simion the most suitable candidate for Cotroceni, and 17.8% opt for Diana Şoşoacă’s candidacy.
In the case of the voters of the United Right Alliance, 21.2% believe that the most suitable candidate for the Presidency would be USR leader Cătălin Drula, followed by Mircea Geoană, Dan Barna, Ludovic Orban, Laura Codruţa Kovesi.
Mircea Geoană is indicated as presidential by both PSD and PNL voters, as well as by some of those of the United Right Alliance, in all three cases being the second option.
Asked what kind of president they would choose between an independent and a member of a political party, 55% of those surveyed say they would choose an independent, 36.1% a member of a political party, and 9% do not know or do not answer. They express their preference for a politically independent candidate especially: women, gray collar workers, urban dwellers, those with a lower income. Men, people with primary education, potentially active inactives, residents of southern regions would most prefer a member of a political party for the presidential position.
50.4% of those questioned say they would prefer a right-wing president, 20.7% a left-wing one, and 28.9% do not know or do not answer.
The voters of the United Right Alliance, of the PNL and of the AUR, the men, the inactive potentially active, the blue-collar workers, the residents of Bucharest express their preference for a right-wing president in a higher proportion than the average. They would rather prefer a leftist president especially: PSD voters, people over 60 years old.
46.8% of Romanians would prefer a younger president, even if he does not have enough experience, and 48.9% a more experienced president, even if he is older. The share of non-responses is 8.2%.
They express their preference for a younger president in particular: voters of the United Right Alliance and AUR, people under 45 years of age, those with medium or higher education, private employees. PSD and PNL voters, people over 45 years of age, passive inactives would prefer a more experienced president, even if he is older, in a higher proportion than the average.
53.8% of the survey participants say they would prefer a president who is a man, and 31% a woman president. 15.2% do not know or do not answer.
PSD, PNL and AUR voters, men, those over 60 years old, passive inactives, residents of small towns, state employees express their preference for a male president in a higher proportion than the other population categories. They would prefer a female president especially: women, people under the age of 30, the inactive potentially active.
