The Interim Justice Minister Ana Birchall has announced on Tuesday that the procedure to appoint the Prosecutor General will be resumed from scratch. Actually, the minister has suspended the second procedure initiated by former Justice Minister Tudorel Toader.
“I have decided to revoke, with immediate effect, the following procedures: 1. The selection procedure of prosecutors in view of appointing the Prosecutor General upon the High Court of Cassation and Justice. 2. The selection procedure of the deputy national member to Eurojust. I mention that the selection procedures will be resumed in the coming period. The details on submitting the files, the scheduled procedures and other information will be released in due time,” Ana Birchall said at the Justice Ministry, Realitatea TV private broadcaster informs.
It is the third time that the selection procedure for Prosecutor General is resumed.
The first selection procedure started on March 13, with Augustin Lazar in office as Prosecutor General.
The second procedure started on April 12.
Augustin Lazar’s term ended on April 27. The Prosecutors’ Section of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) decided that the interim office to be taken over by Bogdan Licu, Lazar’s deputy, for a period of two months.
