After a debate on tax avoidance, the European Parliament has elected on Wednesday Ioan Mircea Pa?cu (S&D) as its new 8th Vice-President, replacing Corina Cre?u, who left to join the European Commission.
PSD MEP was the only candidate for the position left vacant after the appointment of Corina Cre?u at the European Commissioner for the Regional Policy portfolio, on November 1.
Ioan Mircea Pa?cu was elected by 284 out of 461 MEPs present at the session in Brussels.
Before the vote, a euroskeptical MEP has announced that he gives up on his candidacy, accusing monkey business and “a paltry pact” between the main political groups in the EP.
