President Klaus Iohannis and PM Dacian Ciolos had their weekly meeting on Friday, agreeing on the quick amendment of the legislation on the public procurement in the healthcare system in order to provide a more efficient control on the products purchased in hospitals.
“The two officials agreed that new norms for the disinfectants control and testing are needed. At the same time, President Klaus Iohannis and PM Dacian Ciolos decided that the legislation on the public procurement in the health system is needed. The standardization of the acquisitions will lead to providing hospitals with conformable materials which don’t jeopardize people’s life,” reads a press release by the Presidential Administration.
According to the above-mentioned sources, the President is in permanent contact with the head of the Executive to assess the crisis in the health system, the decisions taken to solve the emergency situation and the measures plan that must be enforced on medium and long-term.
Unforeseen checks across four Bucharest hospitals
At the same on Friday, the PM ‘s control body underwent unforeseen checks at the Health Ministry’s office and on four hospitals in Bucharest, with premier Ciolos joining it.
“The checks on the Floreasca Emergency Clinic Hospital in Bucharest, the Universitar Hospital, St. Ioan Hospital and the Hospital for Burnt are conducted to take the documents related to the biocide products’ acquisition,” reads a government press release.
PM Ciolos, who is also the interim Health minister, said that the Romanian Intelligence Service director had presented him with a synthesis of the information the service held on the hospitals’ situation and the notes the institution had delivered to the authorities in the past years.
On Friday, the General Prosecution Office has officially charged the Hexi Pharma drug producer over the delivery of diluted disinfectants to hospitals.
Last week, prosecutors opened a criminal case based on public information on disinfectants produced by Hexi Pharma. A criminal investigation was initiated for the offences of hindering disease combat and falsification or substitution of food or other products.
