Iohannis-Dancila talks at Cotroceni Palace. PM: “We’ll continue our mandate”, “No dismissals”

President Klaus Iohannis and Prime Minister Viorica Dancila have talks at Cotroceni Palace, in the context if reshuffling, in the effort to find compromise, sources have told Realitatea TV private broadcaster.

After the meeting, PM Dancila said the Government had been invested based on the vote granted by the Romanians in December 2016 and therefore, they will continue their mandate based on that vote.

The Government has been invested by the Parliament, based on the vote given by the Romanian in December 2016, and the parliamentary majority is solid, which has been proven including during the vote to elect the new Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies. We will continue out mandate, we have a ruling programme and a rotating presidency of the EU Council, so, our duty is to continue along this path“, the head of the Executive stated after the talks, at the beginning Government sitting.

“We need stability and continuity in the conduct of the government act. I’ve had a discussion today with President Iohannis on the appointment of ministers on the three interim portfolios and we discussed each proposal for minister and the proposal for the position of Deputy Prime Minister. Soon we hope to have an answer from the President. We will have a discussion in the PSD forums, but also with the coalition partners, afterwards we will make a decision that reflects the will of the citizens expressed at the referendum,” Dăncilă said.

As for the President’s call to sack Interior and Foreign ministers, PM Dancila replied that she would take no decision in this regard without a preliminary solid analysis on whose responsible for the defective voting in Diaspora.

The meeting took place one day after the Premier sent the list of four nominated for minister positions, whereas the President requested the dismissal of ministers of Interior Carmen Dan and Foreign Affairs Teodor Melescanu.

“The Presidential Administration confirms the meeting today between President Klaus Iohannis, at Cotroceni Palace, with Prime Minister Viorica Dancila. The two officials discussed about the referendum results and the situation of the governance, the discussions being needed following the profound changes resulted after the election on May 26,” a release from the Presidency reads.

According to the sources, the head of state wants the replacing of some ministers and needs the Premier’s agreement. On the other hand, PM Dancila needs the president’s signature on the decrees appointing three ministers in positions where the interim period is closing to the end.

There is information that President Iohannis intends to turn down the request to appoint Titus Corlatean as Vice-Premier. In turn, PM Dancila eyes a larger reshuffling or a Government restructuring in the coming period and needs the President’s support to accept the decisions.

On Wednesday, PM Dancila sent to the head of state the proposals to appoint four ministers: Titus Corlatean (Vice-Premier for Strategic relations), Ana Birchall (Justice), Roxana Manzatu (European Funds) and Natalia Intotero (Romanians Everywhere).

On the other hand, President Klaus Iohannis requested on Wednesday the dismissal of two ministers for the problems faced on Sunday by the voters.
