The Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) to notify the Superior Councils of Magistracy over PM Ponta and President Basescu’s statements.
The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the incompatibility file of Klaus Iohannis should be on trial after the run-off of the presidential elections. The court has thus rejected the National Integrity Agency’s complaint, and decided to discuss the appeal on November 18.
Ponta: Iohannis to be declared incompatible
PSD leader Victor Ponta said that his contender in the presidential race, Klaus Iohannis “will definitely be declared incompatible”, arguing this is the unitary practice of the Supreme Court. Commenting on today’s ruling that Iohannis file should be on trial after the run-off, starting November 18, the prime minister said: “I think it’s a very good decision. Everybody knows the final ruling, Mr. Iohannis will be declared incompatible, for the Supreme Court has given same rulings so far in similar cases. If on trial now, Mr. Iohannis would prevail that he is a victim, an eventual decision now could trouble the public opinion. So, Iohannis will lose presidential elections on November 16, he will be just a mayor and, thus, there will no more pressure put on the magistrates to rule against all previous rulings so far. If you ask me, I think he will be just a mayor like any other mayors who lost trials with the National Integrity Agency”.
President Traian Basescu said on Sunday evening that Klaus Iohannis is in a difficult position due to the incompatibility file. Basescu stated Iohannis’ incompatibility file is has been at the Supreme Court since 2013. “Firstly, the court should judge this file before Iohannis had entered the presidential race, which would have been the most fair of all options (…) According to a second option, the court should have discussed it before voters going to polls, less correct than the first version but less worse than if it was discussed after closing the ballot boxes. In this case, from the political point of view we could only say that Justice would have a great say in the elections, which is not allowed in a democratic country. People has the right to decide on the President and not the Justice”, Basescu said. He opined that it would have been moral for Iohannis himself to ask that his file should be on trial before running for Presidency. “But morality stories are now similar to the ones about his six –seven houses giving private lessons”, Basescu commented.
PNL spokesperson Alina Gorghiu informed on Monday that the Christian Liberal Alliance (ACL) would notify CSM over PM Ponta and President B?sescu’ s recent statements on Klaus Iohannis’ file, presently on trial at the Supreme Court. “PM’s today statements were very serious, as they put an unprecedented pressure on the Supreme Court. Contender Victor Ponta stated that, undoubtedly, his opponent Klaus Iohannis would be declared incompatible. Last night President Traian B?sescu was telling the same, and today the premier copy-pasted his statements. These are unprecedented stances and this is the reason why ACL asks for CSM’s notification. The premier repeatedly attacked the National Anti-corruption Direction saying it plays the leading part in this electoral campaign. The premier attacked the court saying it has to hasten Iohannis’ file”, Gorghiu said. She added ACL asks CSM to stop “this policy of the blackest dye” and to put an end to “PSD propaganda”.
