Iraqi ambassador in Bucharest summoned to MAE after sexual assault charges against a consul

The Romanian Foreign Ministry has announced the Iraqi ambassador to Romania has been summoned to the ministry as a matter of urgency after two women employed at the embassy had accused a consul of sexual assault. The Ministry has been informed about this issue through a memo filed on November 8.

After the memo has been received, the Foreign Ministry has urgently summoned the Iraq Republic’s ambassador to Romania. On this occasion, it has been underlined that any harassment actions or deeds are in total contradiction with the moral norms and values of the European society in general and of the Romanian society in particular, a reason for which this topic is carefully monitored by the Romanian authorities, including by the Foreign Ministry.

The head of the Iraqi diplomatic mission to Romania has assured the Romanian side that it will review the complaint with all the responsibility and seriousness and, if the signaled facts are confirmed, it will ask the Iraqi Foreign Ministry to take firm actions, in compliance with the Iraqi procedures,” reads a MAE press release.
