Iulian Fota, dismissed from the position of secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Iulian Fota was dismissed as secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), he reacted on Wednesday with a message posted on Facebook in which he says that, beyond signing the decision, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu did not play any role in the decision “ of his dismissal: “I would have appreciated, if I still did a good job, not to be humiliated when leaving. But that was all that was possible”.

He reacted on Wednesday, through a message posted on Facebook, in which he states that the “decision to fire” him did not start with the prime minister and that it is not “a party thing”, being “a simple case, without any connotation politics” and “a simple division of the situation in the case of two very different visions”.
“I believe that the MAE must be run in partnership, through mutual respect and good understanding. This does not rob the Minister of Foreign Affairs (n.r. – Luminița Odeobescu) of either his authority or his prestige. On the contrary. An intelligent man’s strength grows when he surrounds himself with competent people. In addition, the MAE belongs to Romania, so we all have to serve our country by taking care of this very important institution as best we can. Especially in this critical year. Being fired, it’s clear that others have a different opinion and imposed their will by force of the prerogatives they hold”, says Iulian Fota.
“The decision to fire me does not come from his lordship (from the prime minister – n.r.). And I do the same, as long as a minister is closer to his lordship. And it’s not a party thing either, PNL being satisfied with my performance. Ultimately, the good things we have done are also due to the support received from the party. This is the picture, banal and very Romanian. I didn’t ask to come to the MFA, I didn’t ask to leave either. They do it with their foreheads up, leaving behind collective achievements extremely important for Romania’s national security. I would have appreciated, if I still did a good job, not to be humiliated when leaving. But that was all that was possible”.
Iulian Fota was appointed Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in February 2022.
Diplomatic sourced told Digi24 that Iulian Fota will be replaced at MAE by the daughter-in-law of the former PSD Minister of Defense, Gheorghe Tinca.
Ana Tinca is the wife of Ștefan Tinca, son of the former PSD Minister of Defense, Gheorghe Tinca.
Ana Tinca is currently listed as an employee at the Political Section of the Romanian Embassy in Turkey, but the quoted sources claim that she will be called to the country to be installed in the new position.
