Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said Tuesday evening for Antena 3 TV private broadcaster he is not afraid he will set the country on fire with a draft emergency ordinance on amnesty and pardon, as he was appointed in office to put out the fire after the emergency ordinance 13.
“When you make a decision, you are not doing it alone – we talk about a legal document with content and judicial form. On the other hand, you make the decision based on two components: on one hand the opportunity and on the other hand legality or constitutionality. I am not afraid because I have confidence I am not doing what I do not have to do,” Toader said.
“Until now I did not have the feeling that this issue will ‘set the country on fire’. I know ordinance 13, it also had a bad luck number, but I am not afraid as I will never do something that could create peril, in no way to lead to it,” the Justice Minister added.
“On amnesty and pardon, let’s see it. It may be a draft bill in Parliament to request a viewpoint. We issue opinions at the ministry,” Toader also said.
He added that it was not him to come and ask the ruling coalition to be appointed as minister, he had a university career. “I do not feel pressure, but if one dignitary does not have the ability to face pressures, no matter what other say, than it means you are not ready for the office.”
Ironic on President Iohannis
The Justice Minister said ironically he is confident President Klaus Iohannis will read the documents on Prosecutor General Augustin Lazar request for revocation, faster than in the case of DNA’s Kovesi.
“I may be the Justice Minister, but I cannot assess a teacher of physics. Being aware of the rule of law mechanisms needs finesse, it may be the result of accumulations in years. If the citizens elect you, this does not mean you are omniscient the other day. He may receive good advice, but he may say this is the way I want.” Toader said.
Toader also told Antena 3 TV that former President Traian Basescu was better advised as compared to Klaus Iohannis.
“The then president was better advised than the one today. He had flair, he felt things and presented them in a credible manner. The president today does not have this social skill, he bluntly says ‘I do not agree, I’m documenting.’ You need to find out before offering a solution,” Tudorel Toader said.
