Justice Minister Tudorel Toader files resignation on Facebook

After one or two hours earlier he was stating that he is still part of the Government, Justice Minister Tudorel Toader made surprising move, announcing his resignation on Facebook.

Voicing full solidarity with the members of the Government, I file my resignation from the position of Justice Minister!,” reads his Facebook post.

Political sources told Mediafax that before leaving the office, Justice minister has replaced Anca Stoian, director of the European Affairs and Human Rights Direction with Silvia Ileana Vişoiu on Wednesday night.

Silvia Ileana Vişoiu was secretary general within the Justice Ministry and the Economy Ministry during Ponta Government. Her husband is Ion Vișoiu, former personal adviser of ex-foreign minister Titus Corlăţean.

At the same time, two weeks ago, Tudorel Toader also changed the director of the direction to approve regulatory documents, Viorica Matei.

No earlier than this morning, Justice Minister Tudorel Toader was not very clear on Thursday morning when asked about the resignation from the Government, but said he would respect the political and judicial decisions. He stated he is not part of any camp, yet he criticized the evaluation of the Social Democrat Executive Committee, arguing that the goals in the evaluation report are the ones also comprised in the ruling programme, which is for four years, not four months.

A government has two parts, it rests on two pillars. A political pillar, the majority ruling alliance’s support, and a judicial pillar, conferred by the Parliament. I am still part of a government. A government that lost its political support yesterday, but which still has the judicial support. When the political support is withdrawn it is implicitly withdrawn for every member of the government, even if he is a party member or an independent. Of course, I will respect both the political and the judicial decisions,” Toader stated.

Asked if he is still part of the Cabinet, he said that he is doing his job until the end, informing he will go to a debate for the draft law on amending the citizenship at 9 a.m. and he will attend the Superior Council of Magistracy meeting at 12:00.

Tudorel Toader underlined that he is not choosing any camp: “Camps? I am still the Justice minister, I am part of no camp. Don’t forget I am an independent minister. I opted for a distance attitude”.
