Liberal senior Mircea Ionescu Quintus, former president of the National Liberal Party and great Romanian politician, died on Friday aged 100. President Iohannis had decorated Ionescu Quintus in March 2017, when he turned a century of life.
Quintus was also a former political prisoner of the communist regime. He was member of the Association of the Former Political Prisoners in Romania. A war veteran, he was decorated with the “Crown of Romania” order in 1942.
Quintus was senator and minister of Justice. He was also known as a prolific writer.
Quintus was born on March 18, 1917 in Herson/Cherson in Crimea, where his family was refuged.
He graduated “St. Petru and Pavel” High School in Ploiesti (1927-1934) and was a “magna cum laude” graduate of the Law Faculty in Bucharest (1938), and became specialist in law and criminal procedure.
