Liberals ask for an emergency session in Parliament to reject GEO on fiscal measures

Liberals have filed a request in Parliament asking it to summon an emergency session to reject the emergency ordinance on the fiscal measures, the so-called “tax on greed”, and to amend the compensatory appeal law, the leader of the Liberal deputies, Raluca Turcan has announced on Thursday. In case of denial, the National Liberal Party will start a signature-raising campaign to summon the Parliament from the recess.

The Parliament can be called for an emergency session at the request of two thirds of the total number of senators and deputies, as the regulations of the two chambers stipulate.

Moreover, PNL says the dismissal of the ordinance’s authors, the PM’s adviser Darius Valcov and Finance Minister Eugen Teodorovici “is mandatory”.

The GEO no 114/2017, the so-called greed ordinance adopted by Dragnea-Dăncilă-Vâlcov-Teodorovici Government, has caused disastrous effects on the entire economy right from the first two weeks of 2019: the Euro-Ron parity has hit the highest level in its history, directly pressing the Romanians’ pockets; the energy system is almost crashing-the power plants have run out of coal and we are importing electricity at huge prices; the foreign banks are withdrawing their assets from Romania so that they should not be additionally charged, while the Romanian banks, which have no hideaway, are brought to their knees and compelled to narrow lending down or to make it more expensive; telecom operators are abandoning all their investments planned for this year- the 5G system is at risk,” Turcan argued.

The Romanian Parliament is in the winter recess by February 1.
