Liberals won’t forward any proposal for the PM seat

The head of the PNL’s electoral campaign, Gheorghe Falca told RFI on Monday that a centre-right-wing coalition will be difficult to make. He also revealed that the Liberals would make no PM nomination during Wednesday’s consultations at Cotroceni Palace.

“I think that Tariceanu’s statement proved that a centre-right-wing coalition will be very hard to achieve; we, as a party, should provide a normal opposition in the Romanian society. After all, democracy is made of people who have a majority and who are administering the country and a minority, which can train to become majority at other elections,” Falca said.

ALDE co-chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu has recently stated that he cannot consider the offers received from the National Liberal Party (PNL).

Asked if the PNL has proposed Tariceanu the party chairman position if there is a centre-right-wing coalition, Falca answered: “As far as I know, there was no direct talk with Mr. Tariceanu, however, at the end of the first round of consultations, the Liberal interim chairwoman Raluca Turcan proposed a centre-right-wing coalition.”

Also questioned if PNL would forward a proposal for the PM seat at Wednesday consultations, the Liberal leaders said: “It would be very hard for us to make a proposal for the PM seat, as that proposal should be generated by a majority.”

He also denied that the Liberals would propose Dacian Ciolos to run for the PNL chairman. “We won’t, it’s not an option, as Mr. Dacian Ciolos has never wanted to join PNL. We offered this option to Mr. Ciolos, (…) but he wanted to keep his distance from the electoral campaign, he said he wanted to keep his word to the citizens to not get involved in the electoral campaign and he lived up to his promise,” Falca told RFI.
