Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, who is also the PSD candidate in the presidential elections, refused on Wednesday, invited to DigiFM, to introduce himself in a few words in English, stating that he has a reluctance, because he does not know this language very well. “First of all, I think I can also tell them in Romanian. I have no problem. I have a reluctance and it’s normal, because I don’t have a very good command and I don’t think this is the exercise you want”, said Marcel Ciolacu, asked by the radio journalists to give a brief description in English.
The prime minister also described how a meeting between him and the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, went.
“I have tete-a-tete discussions, I don’t have a problem with conversations. I let them know from the beginning that I don’t know very well. I think that the president of the European Commission said “keep calm”, that I speak more slowly. But we managed to understand each other very well in half an hour. It was a tete-a-tete. We had the negotiations regarding the future commissioner and I say that those negotiations came out, taking into account the fact that Romania has for the first time a vice-president of the Commission“, said Ciolacu.
Asked, however, to give a brief description in English, Ciolacu said “I don’t feel comfortable and I don’t do it”.
Marcel Ciolacu confessed on September 10 that he is preparing for the presidential elections by studying English and economics. The prime minister said he had “reservations” in the field of foreign relations, where he did not feel comfortable “also because of the language”.
That us not good about the main foreign language! I can teach and build his confidence for free.
