Media report: Romanian Gov’t Negotiates Sale of TAROM Shares to Qatar, UAE Firms

The government is negotiating with two companies from Qatar and the United Emirates, where Prime Minister Ciolacu is currently visiting, the sale of a stake in the national airline company TAROM, TVR Info reports.

One of TAROM’s suitors is Emirates Airlines, the fourth largest airline in the world, with 300 aircraft in its fleet and flights to 150 cities in 85 countries.

Another option is Qatar Airways, which has 43,000 employees, 200 aircraft and more than 170 international destinations. The government is also negotiating the sale of at least 51% of TAROM’s shareholding, according to TVR Info.

The Government in Bucharest would like to finish the reorganization procedure of Tarom faster in order to be able to sell the flag-carrier airline company.
Romanian PM Ciolacu will have a discussion with the members of the Sovereign Investment Fund of the State of Qatar.
