Minimum gross salary in Romania goes up to RON 3,000

In Thursday’s meeting, the government approved the decision to establish the minimum gross basic salary for the country guaranteed in payment, which provides that its level will be increased to 3,000 lei monthly, starting on January 1, 2023, compared to 2,550 lei at present.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Labor and Social Solidarity, this change in the gross minimum basic salary per country guaranteed in payment represents an increase of 17.6%, which in absolute value means 450 lei, and in net value the salary is 1,863 lei, the increase being 339 lei, and the net increase of 22.2%. The hourly rate will be 18,145 lei/hour for a full work schedule of 165,333 hours/month.

The establishment of the minimum gross basic salary for the country guaranteed in payment for the year 2023 was made by negotiation and the joint agreement of the Government, the representatives of the employers and unions, during the meeting of the National Tripartite Council. 2,181,134 employees will benefit from the increase of the minimum basic salary of 3,000 lei”, the Ministry of Labor states.
