Nikolai Patrushev: Moldova Will Cease to Exist as a State, EU No Longer Has Any Right to Represent Romania

Romanian MAE: "The same aggressive themes of propaganda and disinformation".

The anti-Russian policy of the authorities in Chisinau may result in the cessation of the existence of this country as a state, warned Russian presidential advisor Nikolai Patrushev in an interview for Komsomolskaya Pravda, taken over by the official Russian agency TASS.

Vladimir Putin’s right hand predicts that Ukraine will also cease to exist as a state in 2025 and says that it will not be among the priorities of the new US president, Donald Trump, for whom he also has some advice: to take care of his security before and after the inauguration. In addition, he includes Romania, along with Hungary, Slovakia and Austria, among the states for which Brussels, he says, has lost the right to speak on their behalf.

In response, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) slammed the Russian official’s statements, saying it is the same old “aggressive propaganda and disinformation campaign”

“Moldova will either become part of another state or cease to exist”

“I do not exclude that the aggressive anti-Russian policy from Chisinau will lead to the fact that Moldova will either become part of another state or cease to exist. In this situation, we can look at the example of Ukraine, where neo-Nazism and Russophobia led the country to collapse, and this long before the special military operation,” Nikolai Patrusev said in an interview.

The blame for the energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova lies with the country’s authorities, who obediently follow the orders of Brussels, Putin’s adviser also said. He warned that, within the framework of Russia’s global interests, the country’s main priority is the protection and well-being of Russian citizens and compatriots around the world.

“If we talk about the international aspect of Russia’s global interests, discrimination against the Russian population in a whole range of countries, and, of course, in the Baltic states and Moldova, must stop. The authorities in these states continue to plunge into the deepest crisis through thoughtless actions, while stubbornly spinning Russophobic rhetoric.” Particularly relevant is the energy crisis, which is 100 percent the fault of the Moldovan authorities, who obediently follow Brussels’ orders to reduce dependence on Russian gas,” said Patrushev. “The Moldovan authorities should not look for enemies inside the country or in Transnistria, but should admit their mistakes and start correcting the situation,” the presidential advisor added.

“Ukraine may not exist at all this year”

It is particularly worrying that the violent application of neo-Nazi ideology and incendiary Russophobia are destroying Ukraine’s once prosperous cities, including Kharkiv, Odessa, Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk. “It is possible that Ukraine will cease to exist at all this year,” Patrushev predicted in an interview with KP.RU.

Beyond reconfirming that Moscow is not willing to stop its aggression in Ukraine until it achieves its goals, he formulated a new goal for Moscow: to obtain international recognition that the territories conquered in Ukraine are part of the Russian Federation, thus excluding any kind of territorial cession during any possible peace negotiations.

The status of Donbas and Novorossia cannot be a subject of discussion: these territories became part of Russia by the will of their inhabitants, the Russian presidential adviser argued.

This is not even a subject of discussion. The territories, once ruled by Kiev, became part of Russia as a result of the will of the citizens, in accordance with international law, the laws of the Russian Federation and the legislation of these regions,” Patrushev argued. He believes that it is important for the world to recognize the incorporation into the Russian Federation of the Donetsk Republic, the Luhansk Republic, the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, the Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, “which are an integral part of the country, in accordance with the Constitution”.

“The European Union has lost the right to speak on behalf of Romania”

On the other hand, Patrushev ruled out Moscow discussing Ukraine with anyone other than the United States. I believe that negotiations on Ukraine should be held between Russia and the United States, without the participation of other Western countries,” Patrushev said. “There is nothing to discuss with London and Brussels,” he added.

“The EU leadership, for example, has long lost the right to speak on behalf of many of its members, such as Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Romania and several other European countries interested in stability in Europe and in adopting a balanced position towards Russia,” Putin’s representative argued, probably thinking when he listed Romania’s success with Călin Georgescu, the anti-EU and anti-NATO candidate, for whom Moscow has expressed its appreciation.

“Trump is concerned about China, Ukraine will not be a priority”

US President-elect Donald Trump will pay less attention to supporting Ukraine, as he is more interested in other parts of the world, Nikolai Patrushev believes.

“For the Biden administration, Ukraine was an unconditional priority. It is clear that relations between Trump and Biden are antagonistic. Therefore, Ukraine will not be among Trump’s priorities. “He is more concerned about China,” the Kremlin representative said.

Patrushev noted that Trump has already outlined his interests in Greenland, the Panama Canal, Mexico and Canada. “If we talk about specific prospects for future developments, taking into account the Trump factor, we respect his statements,” Patrushev said.

Nikolai Patrushev, 73, is a former intelligence officer who until last year was secretary of Russia’s Security Council, a position he had held since 2008. Considered a close ally of Putin (some even see him as his successor), even more radical than the current Kremlin leader, Patrushev previously served as director of the Federal Security Service (FSB), from 1999 to 2008. He played a key role in the decisions to take over and then annex Crimea in 2014 and to invade Ukraine in 2022. Mark Galeotti, an expert on Russian politics and security, considers Patrushev “the most dangerous man in Russia” because of his “paranoid, conspiracy-based mentality.”

Romanian MFA retorts: The same aggressive propaganda and disinformation

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said in a press release, that “these repetitive public pronouncements cannot hide the reality: the fact that Russia is waging a war of aggression against Ukraine, violating the UN Charter and international law, and that it is carrying out massive and systematic hybrid actions against the Republic of Moldova”.

According to MAE, the statements of Nikolai Patrushev, former secretary of the Russian Security Council and current advisor to Vladimir Putin, “contain nothing new”, but are “the same aggressive themes of propaganda and disinformation with which Moscow has intoxicated us”.

The Romanian MFA also responded that “despite all the actions by which Russia seeks to create divisions in Europe, the reality remains that the European Union has provided and continues to provide significant multidimensional support to Ukraine, in all areas, and to sanction Russia,” according to the press release.

If you have a third eye view on this, you can understand the reality of these statements. The smartest action for Romania is to directly incorporate Moldova and give up Transnistria to whoever wants it, at a nice peace and trade agreement price.
