Outgoing Israeli ambassador to Romania, decorated by president Iohannis

President Klaus Iohannis bestowed the Faithful Service Order in rank of Grand Cross upon Israel’s Ambassador Dan Ben-Eliezer in a ceremony at the Cotroceni Palace on Thursday, as the envoy ended his term in Romania.

The ambassador said he is honored by this “peak of five very important and interesting years of his diplomatic career.”

“I feel attached not only to the country, but also to the Romanian people. I must tell you these years were interesting not just from the career point of view, but also from the standpoint of my roots, because my family had its origins in Iasi. So, coming to Romania was to me like a voyage to the origins, back to my roots,” Dan Ben-Eliezer stated.

He added he is proud of pushing forward the excellent relations between Romania and Israel, while thanking the Romanian authorities for their support.

“I will always fondly remember the time spent here in Romania, and I will share my knowledge about Romania and feelings to it equally to the people of the State of Israel and to other countries (…) I will keep being not just an ambassador of the State of Israel to Romania, but also an ambassador of Romania to the State of Israel,” he concluded.
