Parliament approves BNR Board, Fiscal Council, CNA President. Isarescu, another record – 7th term

The Parliament, in extraordinary session, has voted on Wednesday, by majority of votes that Mugur Isarescu will remain National Bank Governor for the 7th consecutive term. Isarescu has entered the Book of Records since 2009, as the longest serving governor of a central bank.

There were 300 votes for and only 15 against, many PSD Deputies being absent from the plenary sitting in protest. There were also some who boycotted the vote today.

Besides Isarescu, Florin Georgescu (PSD) was also unanimously endorsed for the position of First Deputy Governor of BNR and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, Leonardo Badea (PSD) and Eugen Nicolaescu (PNL) – as member of the Board Deputy Governor and Gheorghe Gherghina (PSD), Cristi Popa (USR), Dan Radu Rusanu (ALDE), Virgil Stoenescu (PNL), Balint Csaba (UDMR), as members of the Board of Directors.

The Parliament plenary sitting also appointed the members of the Fiscal Council. George Georgescu, nominated by the Romanian Academy, Bogdan Octavian Cozmâncă nominated by BNR, Georgiana Camelia Creţan nominated by ASE, Daniel Daianu nominated by the Romanian Banking Institute (IBR), and Bogdan Sebastian Căpraru nominated by ARB, all were favorably endorsed.

The Parliament also appointed the President of the National Audiovisual Council, Maria Monica Gubernat being proposed for this position.
