Social Democrat Party (PSD) chairman Liviu Dragnea, also Chamber of Deputies speaker, has announced deputies on Tuesday that the Parliament might be summoned in extraordinary session if the debates on the Criminal Procedure Code are not concluded in this ordinary session, sources within the ruling party told Hotnews.ro.
Dragnea would have told MPs that the adoption of the justice laws and the conclusion of the Criminal Procedure Code are top priorities and that an extraordinary session might be called for that.
The Criminal Procedure Code is to enter the parliament’s debate in the coming period. PSD has set up a special committee to amend the Criminal Codes, but its activity is stuck at the moment.
At the same time, last week the European Commission started the infringement procedure against Romania on the benefit of doubt issue and of the right for a fair trial in the criminal proceedings.
In retort to the EC’s action, the chairman of the special committee on justice laws, Florin Iordache said that the directive will be transposed in the Romanian legislation and a report will be drafted in the upcoming weeks.
