The Standing Bureaus of the Romanian Parliament is expected to convene on Monday at 13:00 to discuss the procedure of appointing Mihai Razvan Ungureanu at the helm of the Foreign Intelligence Service. The procedure says that the Standing Bureaus should convoke the parliamentary committees for SIE control to hear Ungureanu, and then his nomination will be debated by the plenum.
President Iohannis nominated him for this position on Wednesday. Ungureanu used to serve as SIE head in the past, too.
The nomination stirred ruling Social Democrat Party and PM Ponta’s anger and they announced he would not endorse him for a new term as foreign intelligence director. Yet, interim premier Gabriel Oprea had expressed he supported president Iohannis in this action.
