Romanian Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos celebrates his 47th anniversary on Wednesday, his first one as head of the Romanian Government. The only event on the PM’s agenda today is the government weekly sitting.
Dacian Ciolos was born in Zalau on July 27, 1969 and spent his childhood in his grandparents’ village, Pericei, Salaj county in the heart of Transylvania.
According to his resume, Ciolos graduated the Horticulture Faculty of the Agricultural Studies University in Cluj in 1994. He got an Advanced Agronomics diploma on “production systems and rural development” at Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique ENSAR, Rennes during 1995-1996. During 1996-1997 he had a scientific master degree on “The Economy of the agricultural and rural development” at École Nationale Supérieure Agronomique (ENSAM) and Université Montpellier.
Dacian Ciolos held the Agriculture portfolio during October 2007-December 2008 during the Cabinet led by Calin Popescu Tariceanu, and he was president of the Presidential Committee for Agricultural Policies during June-October 2009.
He was European Commissioner for Agriculture during 2010-2014, and after that he became special adviser of EC president, Jean-Claude Juncker.
Ciolos was appointed prime minister on November 17, 2015 after the resignation of the Ponta Cabinet.
He is married to French Valerie Villemin since 2000.
In an interview to Sinteza magazine in 2014, Dacian Ciolos said that as a child, he loved to stay at his grandparents in the countryside and to get involved in the works afield.
“In my case, the school used to break off the holidays, not the other way around. There was not a single holiday that I shouldn’t have spent at my grandparents, afield. I was at ease there,” Ciolos said.
