PM Dăncilă asks MPs to have decent political language and to refrain from actions that might hurt Romania’s image

PM Viorica Dăncilă has asked policy makers in Parliament on Wednesday to have a decent political language and to refrain from „actions that might hurt Romania’s image”, amid preparations for Romania to take over the Presidency of the EU Council as of January 1, for the first time since it is a EU member.

Viorica Dăncilă has presented Romania’s priorities in Parliament on Wednesday, the final draft of rotating presidency’s programme.

She told the lawmakers convened in the plenary session that, as Romania takes over the Presidency of the EU Council, there shouldn’t be any egos, interests or political fights, while calling for peace and consensus.

„Taking over such position is an extremely important event that we don’t have to politicize in any way. There will be multiple challenges, but we must be aware that Europe’s future means the future of our children. It is important to show the entire Europe that Romania is a country worth to lead the EU, to decisively contribute to the European future that it is part of. I believe in balance and cooperation. There is no more room for egos or political interests or political fights. I resume the appeal to peace and consensus. We have a national project that imposes that,” Dancila stated, while calling on MPs to stop the political messages that might affect Romania’s image abroad.

I ask you to refrain from any political language or message that might affect Romania’s image (…) As for the Government, I can assure you that we have looked very seriously to this historical moment for our country and have thoroughly trained, every minister has an agenda during the EU Council Presidency,” the PM stated.

Dăncilă pointed out that “cohesion, as European common value”, will be Romania’s motto at the helm of the European Council.
