PM Viorica Dăncilă has stated in Brussels on Tuesday that democracy is an assumed choice for Romania and that it is irreversible.
„Democracy represents the indisputable result of our European path, a choice that we have assumed and which cannot be reversible. Europe’s future means our future and our contribution to a better and safer world (…) We are working together so that the Summit in Sibiu, a major event, should mark the launching of the debates before taking over the Presidency of the EU Council, which is the more relevant amid Brexit (…), and should send a clear, positive message on the capacity of working together to that direction to enhance a united project, dedicated to peace, to observing human rights and social values”, the Romanian premier said while addressing the conference “Cores and Peripheries in Europe? A Europe NEXT Project”, organized by Aspen Institute in Brussels.
Dăncilă added that Romania will continue to support the European values, and the Presidency of the EU council will be a test of maturity for our country.
She also talked about Romania’s accession to Schengen area, arguing that although our country has taken efforts in this respect, it “has got no answer in the past 10 years”.
PM Dăncilă, next to other members of the Government, is paying an official visit to Brussels on December 4-5, to discuss Romania’s preparations to take over the EU Council Presidency as of January 1, 2019.
