Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu characterizes the first 100 days in office as ‘original,’ adding that some measures adopted by the Government during this period could have been communicated ‘much better’.

Asked on Monday, by Antena 3 TV private broadcaster, to define in a word the first 100 days of his government, Grindeanu replied: ‘Original’.

On the other hand, the head of the executive said that during this period many decisions were made, and some of them could have been communicated “much, much better”.

“There are things that could have been communicated much, much better. These are decisions we have made and perhaps the communication and the way they were explained were not the happiest ones. But the decisions were made. Pensions have been increased, taxes have been reduced, the minimum wage has increased, all those things related to the students have been made (…), the national programs have been launched,” PM Grindeanu said.

The Head of the Executive gave as an example the good management at the level of the Ministry of Agriculture.

“In favour of what I am saying (…) is the International Monetary Fund’s review a few days ago on the economic growth, with forecasts of up from 3.8 to 4.2%. They will reach, I am certain, the 5.2% economic growth,” Grindeanu said.

The Premier reiterated that, after the first quarter, there was a budgetary surplus of RON 1.52 billion, representing about 0.2% of GDP.

“The budget revenues in March were by 22% higher than in March last year. (…) The growth rate for the first quarter of 2017 is exactly as predicted, higher than 5%. Total revenues to the consolidated state budget are by almost RON 4 billion higher than in the first quarter in 2016 (…) The value added tax collection increased by 2.5% in February 2017 as compared to February 2016 and in March 2017, against the first quarter of 2016 March 2016, by almost 9%,” Grindeanu said, recalling that over 60,000 new jobs were created in Romania in the first three months of the year.

The government took the office on January 4. Sorin Grindeanu is the 13th Prime Minister of Romania during the past 27 years. Grindeanu was nominated following President Klaus Iohannis’ refusal to appoint as Premier the PSD first nomination – Sevil Shhaideh, currently minister of development.
