PNL says amnesty and pardon are out of question from now on, USR-PLUS call for Gov’t resignation. The other parties’ stances

PNL leader Ludovic Orban (photo 1) considers that the scores for the Euro-parliamentary elections and the referendum on justice issues show that Romanians want a “fair and European” path.

At the same time, Orban says that after the Sunday’s vote, politicians no longer have the right to discuss about amnesty and pardon, ziare.com reports.

It is the victory of honest Romania, of fair, European and the hardworking Romania. As of today, no leader has the right to dare to talk about amnesty, about pardon, or attacking justice by means of emergency ordinances,” Ludovic Orban said.

USR chairman Dan Barna (photo 2) has explicitly called for the resignation of the Dancila Government for the way Diaspora was treated on Election Day.

The USR leader believes that Dancila Government has shamefully treated the Romanians in Diaspora.

“We are asking formally and explicitly for the resignation of the Dancila Government for the problems made to the citizens in Diaspora after the experience of 2014. This is unacceptable: USR Plus promises the Diaspora that they will never be gassed and mocked! Romanians in Diaspora deserve to express their civilized vote and to avoid standing for hours in queues because of an incompetent Government,” Barna said in a press conference on Sunday.

Freedom, Unity and Solidarity Party (PLUS) leader Dacian Ciolos, partner of USR in the Alliance 2020, has said, in his turn, that Romanians had voted for the rebirth of the country and for a European Romania.

Today’s vote shows that Romania is reborn, and the citizens of Romania have finally restored meaning to democracy through their vote. We thank those over 9 million Romanians who voted today and have proved that Romania is a European country, (…) that they also set Europe an example of what a nation can do when society gets mobilized to show politicians the way the country should go,” Ciolos said.

He also praised “an exceptional mobilization” to vote of the Romanian citizens, including the Hungarian community.

As for the current representatives of the Magyar community in the Romanian Parliament, the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) said through the voice of its chairman, that the representatives of the Union will have a “powerful voice” in the European Parliament.

We must wait for the vote count. I consider we will have a powerful representation and we promise that our representatives in the EP will have a powerful voice, a very determined one, because we must continue the path that we’ve set on, including the Minority SafePack, this package to defend ethnic minorities in the EU, which is an important desideratum for us”, said Kelemen Hunor.

Pro Romania obtained 5,7 pc according to the 21:00hrs exit polls, with chairman Victor Ponta, former SocDem PM, saying that Romanians “have sent a clear message” through the Sunday’s vote, a vote that “Liviu Dragnea did not understand”.

We won’t stop! The message today is clear. Dragnea has not understood it, he is still living with his own pals, with Codrin and the others. We must restore the center-left wing, to have a modern policy to understand the millions of people who came to polls”, Ponta said.

PMP leader, Eugen Tomac, stated that PSD “has learned its lesson” at these elections and the referendum, stressing that Romanians have proved that “rule of law is no joke”.

This share of almost 50% turnout is a success for us“, he argued.

ALDE did not cross the threshold of 5 pc (4.7% according to the last estimations), with chairman Calin Popescu Tariceanu admitting that the “record turnout has decreased their share”. Yet, Tariceanu argued the exit polls results are just “an estimation”, voicing confidence his party will meet the threshold.
