PNL calls for early elections

PNL co-president Alina Gorghiu on Wednesday called for early elections through a political agreement.

“This is the National Standing Bureau’s mandate related to early elections and we think we can solve this crisis if there is willingness through a political agreement,” Gorghiu said at the end of PNL meeting called after PM’s resignation.

She added the National Liberal Party will take the first step and initiate talks with the leaders of the parliamentary parties.

In his turn, Vasile Blaga, PNL co-president stated that Victor Ponta’s decision is tardy, but “better later than never.”

“We need a political agreement so that we could have elections as soon as possible,” Blaga argued.

In retort, PSD chairman Liviu Dragnea said they don’t like the snap elections idea.

“We’ll submit our prime minister proposal, we hope it will be accepted. We’ll make a proposal that will consider the dynamics in the society and a proposal that will have the endorsement of the Parliament’s majority. We don’t like PNL’s proposal to hold snap elections for it would mean to have an instable Government for the upcoming months and the budget law must be adopted, winter is coming. PSD wants to keep ruling. The President should call us for consultations in a reasonable time,” Dragnea replied.
