PNL challenges the amendments to ANI law to the Constitutional Court

Liberal deputies leader, Raluca Turcan, has said on Wednesday that PNL has challenged to the Constitutional Court (CCR) the amendments to the law on National Integrity Agency (ANI) and asks the society to ‘shout out loud’ requesting the resignation of Liviu Dragnea.

“By amending the ANI law, actually final rulings in court have been repealed,” Raluca Turcan said in Parliament.

“The Dragnea criminal group in the Chamber of Deputies has hit again. This cannot be tolerated, I believe the Parliament should dissociate from Liviu Dragnea, I believe the society should shout out loud requesting Dragnea’s resignation,” the PNL first Vice-president said.

Turcan asked for putting an end to the debates in the special committee on amending the laws of justice while waiting for points of view from European institutions.

“PNL cannot tolerate such behaviour from PSD and ALDE, mainly from Liviu Dragnea. (…) We should wait for points of view from our international partners, the Venice Commission and for assessments and impact studies,” Turcan said.

The challenge to CCR reads about the violation of legal regulations on technical norms, of chambers’ competence and the principle of non-retroactivity of the civil law.

PNL claims art. I and art. II are unconstitutional as they violate the principle of loyal cooperation between the public institutions and authorities in Romania, attached to the art. 1, paragraph (5) of the Constitution.

“Furthermore, the violation of CCR Decision no. 619/2016 represents defiance  against the Constitutional Court, an autonomous public authority, fundamental to ensure the observance of the Constitution and another violation of the principle of loyal cooperation,” PNL claims.
