Only about 23% of Romanians with voting rights agree with the solution of the appointment of chief prosecutors by the Minister of Justice or by the Government, an IMAS survey presented by Europa FM informs.
Also, according to the survey, if President Klaus Iohannis calls for a referendum, the 30% threshold for validation would most likely be exceeded: 36.9% would certainly participate, 15.6% would probably vote, 11.2% probably would not participate, 34.7% surely would not participate and 1.6% do not know/do not answer.
About 15% of Romanians are very pleased with President Iohannis’ actions regarding justice, 28% are satisfied and about 25% are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied.
Laura Codruta Kovesi is seen a little better, with nearly 47% of voting citizens being satisfied or very pleased with the national Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) chief’s activity.
The same survey reveals that Romanians overwhelmingly believe that politics increasingly influences justice.
Asked ‘do you believe justice in Romania is influenced by politics’, more than 80% said ‘yes’.
Asked who should appoints the DNA chief prosecutor, the Prosecutor General and the DIICOT chief prosecutor, less than 20% of the interviewees agreed with the appointment by the Justice Minister or by the Government.
The survey presented by Europe FM was conducted during June 9-13, 2018, with 800 interviews by CATI (Computer Assisted Telephone Interviews) method. The target population was made up by persons aged 18 or more living in Romania. The sampling error is of +/- 3.5%.
