President Iohannis awards controversial ex-Bucharest Deputy Mayor Aurelian Bădulescu

The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, decorated the former vice-mayor of the Capital, Aurelian Bădulescu, with the National Order “For Merit” in the rank of Knight. The decoration of Bădulescu took place in the context in which the President of Romania signed several decoration decrees the other day, on the occasion of the 160th anniversary of the establishment of the Court of Accounts. Aurelian Bădulescu is currently an account advisor at this institution.

The decoration by Iohannis of Bădulescu, together with other members of the Court of Accounts of Romania, was done “as a sign of high appreciation for the integrity, dedication and professionalism they showed in the exercise of the act of control, contributing to a better use of the financial resources of the Romanian state”, says a press release from the Presidential Administration.

In 2020, in the midst of the coronavirus crisis, Aurelian Bădulescu said of Iohannis that he was “theatrical, with PSD in his mouth”, after the head of state had accused PSD of intentionally creating a health crisis. 4Also, at that time, Badulescu posted a photo of Iohannis as Hitler.

In the same year, Bădulescu, at that time the vice-mayor of the Capital, restrained and did not let the mayor Nicușor Dan hold a press conference in the Prelungirea Ghencea area.

In another meeting at the General Council of the Municipality of Bucharest, the vice-mayor Aurelian Bădulescu asserted himself through an obscene gesture towards a colleague.
