President Klaus Iohannis has hailed the conclusion of the investigation of the Revolution file and that it has been sent to court. In a press release, Iohannis said it is “an extremely important” step in finding the truth on the events of December 1989.
The Romanian President considers the announcement on the conclusion of the judicial inquiry as an undertaking of “particular significance in the judiciary’s responsibility to establish the truth.” “The resolution of this historical case is the more important the more a true democracy is based only on truth and justice“, the press release further says.
“In the Romanian society’s endeavor to know ans assume the past, sanctioning the deeds that represented a direct attack against the life and human dignity during the Revolution in December 1989 is essential. The conclusion of the judiciary inquiry in the Revolution file represents a necessary action in the year when we are marking 30 years since the fall of the communism and when we shall reconstruct the ideals of the Revolution of December 1989 and when we shall honour our heroes,” the head of state stated.
“The crimes during the Revolution cannot remain unpunished“, Iohannis concluded.
