President Iohannis leaves for official visit to Spain

President Klaus Iohannis and his wife Carmen Iohannis are paying an official visit to Spain during July 12-14, at the invitation of their Royal Highnesses King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia. The Romanian President is also scheduled to meet the representatives of the Romanian community in Spain.

President Iohannis will be received by the Spanish King at Zarzuela Palace in Madrid where they will have official talks. King Felipe and Queen Letizia will offer an official dinner in the honor of the Romanian president and his wife. Spanish PM Mariano Rajoy and his wife will also attend the dinner, as well as the Senate and Chamber speakers, president of the Supreme Court and of the Constitutional Court, Spanish political, economic, cultural and academic personalities and members of the Romanian community living in Spain.

President Iohannis will have official talks with PM Rajoy on Monday, followed by a joint press conference. The Romanian president will also meet Speaker of the Spanish Senate, Pio Garcia-Escudero.

The visit represents “a benchmark moment of the Romanian-Spanish bilateral dialogue at top level, while it is the first official contact between Klaus Iohannis and King Felipe VI, proclaimed king on July 19 last year”, reads a press release issued by the Romanian Presidential Administration.
