President Iohannis pays state visit to Turkey

President Klaus Iohannis embarks on a three-day state visit to Turkey as of Tuesday until Thursday. He will meet his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish PM Ahmet Davutoglu, but also the Romanian Diaspora.

The Romanian president will have an encounter with the governor of Istanbul Vasip Șahin, with the city mayor Kadir Topbaș and with the Romanian nationals living there, reads a release by the Presidential Administration.

Klaus Iohannis will meet Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Wednesday. The visit will also include meetings with the president of the National Great Assembly, Ismail Kahraman and PM Ahmet Davutoglu.

President Iohannis’ visit aims at enhancing the bilateral cooperation based on the Romania-Turkey Strategic Partnership signed in 2011,” the Romanian Presidency also states.

The above-mentioned source says that the official talks will approach bilateral, regional, security and international topics, matters related to the economic, military and NATO cooperation, as well as aspects of EU-Turkey dialogue with focus on migration.
