President Klaus Iohannis approved four proposals for appointments to the position of ambassador. Ovidiu Raeţchi, the president of the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Center, is to go as ambassador to Japan, and to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Sebastian Mitrache, announces the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In Portugal, the appointment of Daniela Grigore Gîtman as ambassador was approved, and for the position of ambassador in Croatia, the appointment of Daniela Mihaela Cămărăşan was approved.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwarded to the specialized Committees of the Parliament the request for hearing the four ambassadors.
According to the MAE, Sebastian Mitrache was approved for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He holds the position of political director, with the rank of general director, within the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the period 2016-2022, he was the deputy permanent representative of Romania to NATO, and between 2015 and 2016, he was the director of the Security Policy Directorate within the Central Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also worked at the Permanent Delegation of Romania to NATO, including as head of the Political Section. He also held the positions of deputy director (2008-2009) and head of service (2007-2008) within the NATO Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the period 2002-2007 he was a diplomat in the Embassy of Romania in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He knows English and French.
The appointment of Daniela Mihaela Cămărăşan was approved for the position of ambassador to Croatia. According to the MAE, she is a representative with special assignments, with the rank of general director, within the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the period 2019-2023, she held the position of Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Previously, she was the Romanian ambassador to the Republic of Estonia (2016-2019). In the Central MAE, she also held the position of Cabinet Director of the Minister of Foreign Affairs (2012-2016), also working in the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Strategic Affairs, for European Affairs, respectively, for Global Affairs (2009-2012). In the Foreign Service, she also worked as a diplomat in the Romanian embassy in the Republic of Lithuania. She knows English and French.
In Japan, Ovidiu Raeţchi, president of the Euro-Atlantic Resilience Center, with the rank of secretary of state, was approved as ambassador. He was vice-president of the Commission for Defence, Public Order and National Security in the Chamber of Deputies and deputy in the Romanian Parliament for the Diaspora (2012-2016), respectively, for Bucharest (2016-2020). “He is a doctor in history (Faculty of History of the University of Bucharest) and a doctor in political sciences (SNSPA). He holds a master’s degree in Arabic Culture (Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the University of Bucharest) and a master’s degree in Jewish Civilization (Faculty of Letters of the University of Bucharest). He knows English and French”, the MFA also states in the statement.
